Using Instagram for eCommerce.
Since Instagram began back in late 2010 the site has gone from strength to strength, from building influencers to allowing us to share our pictures and more recently has become a massive way to drive eCommerce sales. There are ways via your Instagram grid to make a profit and also via stories. Since Instagram introduced stories in 2016, the platform has continued to grow. With companies following the trends of the site closely.
Not only can you create an Instagram AD on your main feed and add your site link to your bio, but you can now generate sales via stories. Asking the user to click through to the bio can often be time-consuming and less likely to happen. However, with the new options available this no longer needs to be a problem. There are plenty of ways to make eCommerce sales from Instagram, but here are our top 3, which are worth trying out.
Swipe Up
The swipe up feature is available to accounts with more than 10,000 followers, which of course, isn’t an easy number to build overnight. However, when you’ve built following the stories swipe up stories have so many benefits as a brand. By using the stories swipe up feature you can create a CTA to go directly to a product page. If you create stories as a brand which are eyecatching and on-trend, you’re more than likely going to get users swiping up on your story.
By implementing this feature well it then takes visitors to your site. Then once they’re on the site, it’s the businesses turn to wow the customer into a purchase. A well-designed site is a fantastic place to start. Make sure the site offers reasons for the user to click through more pages and also complete that purchase.
Partner with influencers
If you are looking to reach further with your products than your own following, why not work with influencers. If you’re looking for influencers with swipe up stories or who’s content you think will compliment your brand, start by reaching out to them with a proposal. Make sure this is beneficial to both parties and fits well with their other content. If you don’t have 10,000 followers as a brand, this may be a good way to get clicks to your site. Which of course clicks = sales.
Instagram check out
The latest sales method which Instagram has brought into play is Instagram Checkout. Although this is not yet available for all brands/countries as of yet it is currently being rolled out across the platform and some say this is going to be the next big thing. The way in which Instagram checkout is shown to users is via a shopping bag and once you click through, the products which are shown in the picture are tagged. This will show you how much they are and have a clickable link to allow you to purchase the item straight away via Instagram. By getting customers to purchase in the app it allows Instagram to keep them on site.
However, Instagram also offers a shopping option where you can click through on a pop up of an item and head over to the companies site via a landing page. Then purchase directly through the retailer instead of Instagram. But once they click through to the site the consumer is taken away from Instagram.
We think these 3 methods of generating eCommerce sales from Instagram are going to keep being massive hits and there doesn’t seem to any signs that Instagram is going to slow down anytime soon.
