The best of the marketing campaigns in 2019

With 2019 drawing a close, we’ve decided to share with you some of the best marketing campaigns of 2019 and what they were all about. These marketing campaigns have taken on more than just advertising their products and turned their campaigns into a powerful message to be remembered. By using marketing in this way, you’re likely to increase the popularity of your brand as consumers want to see positive changes in the world. So what are the best marketing campaigns of this year, and why were they so successful?

Cadbury marketing campaign

Cadbury x Age UK- Donate your Words

In 2019, Age UK partnered up with Cadbury in their donate your words campaign. With Cadbury chocolate bars all over the nation removing the words from the front of its packaging. As well as advising from every sale of the limited edition chocolate 30p would be donated to Age UK.

With over 1.4 million older people in the UK struggling with loneliness and 225,000 of them going over a week without speaking to anyone. With this in mind, Cadburys opted to make a change and boost the funding behind the charity to help those who are alone. Although the campaign is now over, the amount of publicity and donations the campaign received was huge. It also encouraged more of us to volunteer and show our compassion towards those who suffer from loneliness.

Gillette- The Best A Man Can Be

One of this year’s more controversial marketing campaigns was fronted by Gillette who are the men’s shaving company. The campaign centred around their tag line “The Best a Man Can Get”  and changing it up to go from the angle of The Best A Man Can Be. The shaving company made an advert sharing how men should be better. The theme of the advert includes men shutting down other men for their actions by standing up to bullies, stopping to objectify women and not talking down to them.

Many took offence to the AD advising it was, in fact, insulting to masculinity.  However, plenty of people were happy to praise the advert which comes along with tackling the “boys will be boys” attitude. Plenty of women were sharing their joy over the brand standing up in a potentially harmful brand campaign. Alongside men who claim the only men who have any issue with the advert are those who aren’t living up to the standard.

Greggs- The Vegan Sausage Roll

Earlier this year, Greggs took the nation by storm with their Vegan Sausage roll. With everyone wanting a piece of the action, even those who eat meat. Greggs made the announcement on Twitter and were happy to boast about the best qualities of their sausage roll.  Advising that it would be as flaky and golden as their much-loved sausage roll. Just with the replacement of a vegan core. According to The Vegan Society, the number of Vegans in the UK has quadrupled since 2014 and it’s a trend that doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

Starting back in January with Veganuary, over 250,000 took part in the no meat January and with the demand of meat-free food high than ever, it’s no wonder Greggs took to their Newcastle kitchen to come up with a vegan solution. For the first month of the sausage roll, it was a complete sell-out! Since then, the chain has continued to sell the product and it’s often referred to as good as, if not better than their meat alternative.

ITV- More than TV

Earlier this year ITV made a bold claim that their shows reach 38.5m viewers per week. And the channel decided they want to do something to bring people together. They advise, even in this digital age where many of us are feeling isolated. TV remains a social event with 60% agreeing nothing beats TV for bringing people closer together. Using a video which features Trevor McDonald and his famous news reporter voice, which has been heard for decades.

The advert promotes how popular TV is and how being a part of their adverting movement can build a brand. With the ITV ad, providing so much action within 1 minute, you can’t help but give it your full attention. Which is what ITV want to help achieve for other brands looking to improve their marketing campaign.
